LEVEL 1 OUTLINE: 'Teach Me Right'

An even partner balance is enrolled. Everyone systematically switches partners every 5 mins. No previous dance experience is required. Most students will need to repeat Level 1 possibly twice or more before being ready for level 2. Therefore Susana's Level 1 syllabus has nearly 30 patterns - at least 9 new patterns per course, which build the necessary fundementals for moving to the next level, and provide a vehicle for connecting with the music in the moment. When students relax, they learn more, so each week we review the previous step learned. As a result we almost always manage to move ahead to something new and exciting.

LEVEL 2 OUTLINE: 'Flowing forward'
An even partner balance is enrolled. Partner switches occur every 5-10 minutes. Dance shoes are a must. At least 10-20 weeks of tango instruction is required before entering this level. Being at home with the basics and a variety of ocho patterns (as well as navigating for men) is a must. From season to season, different steps are presented as a way of allowing the students to progress at their own pace. Elements include walking turns, three-quarter turns and circular patterns involving molinete to prepare for level 3. All steps work well for navigating line of dance. By attending multiple level 2 courses, men form an ample vocabulary for navigational ease, for dancing on the spot when needed, or for flowing with traffic as needed. Women learn to calm their timing when following and remain connected even when they are lead into unfamiliar patterns.

When level-testing followers I look for:
    - smooth ochos i.e. pivots on one foot without the
      help of the other
    - one thigh in contact with the other during all back
      & front steps
    - a relaxed embrace whilst maintaining a fixed
      elbow position
    - never missing the lead to the cross
    - a relaxed, grounded timing that doesn't anticipate
      or speed ahead
When a student's fundamental technique is no longer challenged by the patterns in one level, they are usually ready for the next level where more difficult patterns will re-challenge their fundamentals such as posture, collecting, axis, symmetry and embrace.

LEVEL 3 OUTLINE: 'Challenge me'
The Level 3 syllabus contains over 100 distinct patterns, therefore students tend to return season after season. Partner switches occur every 5-10 minutes. Dance shoes are a must. When level-testing followers I look for smooth ochos, a good Molinete, a relaxed 'tango-mature' timing and ability maintain connection during unfamiliar steps. Those wishing this level must be already attending 'milongas' regularly for practice. Before leaders can attend this level navigating, floorcraft skills and etiquette are essential. I also look for a demonstrated comprehension of step-logic and the ability to maintain connection while leading patterns. Each lesson includes review of the previous week, then a new pattern most weeks. Courses also cover Tango/Vals & Milonga. Steps may include Cadenas, Sacadas, Ganchos, Boleos, Empujadas, Sweeps, Traspié, Rulos, Enrosques, Colgadas, Planeos, Calesitas, plus a variety of embellishments for ladies.
